You can never rely on a horse that is educated by fear. There will always be something that he fears more than you. But when he trusts you, he will ask you what to do when he is afraid.
~ Antoine de Pluvinel
Katrina's biggest teachers over the last 20 years have been the hundreds of horse's she's had the opportunity to work with and learn from alongside her human mentors.
This includes training full-time through her own business for 10 years after managing several international equine facilities specialising in rehabilitation, exercise physiology & nutritional research, breeding & training. Her practical work is accompanied by 8 years of formal study in Equine Science. |

Set your horse up for success, each carefully considered training program begins exclusively on the ground & in-hand, without the burden or extra intensity required to carry weight or a rider.
Key concepts of mental and physical engagement are introduced, including balance & body control, postural development, symmetry & alignment (straightness training) & spatial boundaries.
This work activates muscle groups involved in building topline & correct muscle tone, encourages healthy movement patterns & begins to address physical dysfunction for efficient and comfortable performance of handling, ground and ridden tasks while promoting soundness.
Self regulation, self-confidence & self-carriage are the key components of our training programs. We aim for consistency & clarity throughout, hence much of our ground preparations are mirrored during the transition to training under saddle.
Moving forward means working through any negative associations, trauma or learned behaviours with care & compassion. Deconstructing & rebuilding through developing mental & physical engagement.
Positive experiences are the key to progression & require us to manage our expectations. In order to create positive experiences we emphasise preparation - this may include breaks or spelling during training to allow time for mental & physical adjustments.
