"My young horse Zilla went to Katrina originally for basic training as a 2 year old; I had many issues handling her and was so impressed with the positive changes in my horse, I booked her in for pre-starting. She has just completed this stage of her training, it was great to see her next level of learning. Last weekend I attended the new training sessions for owner and horse; a super informative session. I've asked so many questions along the way and Katrina has always remained helpful and very responsive." ~ Desrae & 'Zilla

"Tobias arrived to Katrina as a 4yr old Morgan with limited handling, he was treated like one of her own, the care and training he received were excellent. Training was done with lots of patience and he was not rushed at any stage.
Tobias arrived home yesterday and is settling in well, Katrina explained her methods to me and I had a few sessions with him before I brought him home (and yes, he walked straight onto the float and travelled beautifully.) These one on one sessions were excellent, and it was nice to put everything together today on my own and see him responding and relaxing in a different environment. Tobias and I thoroughly recommend Katrina at Cadence!" ~ Kerrin & Tobias |
“Thank you to Katrina and the team at Cadence horse training for starting Jahi under saddle! I was an anxious Mum leaving my boy in the care of others, you made this transition easy for both of us - I highly recommend Cadence for the professional and caring service they provide. I have a happy, soft and responsive boy and I can't wait for our journey to begin. We both thank you! ” - Natasha & Wirraway Park Jahi |
"After losing my confidence when starting my Off The Track TB "Cadbury", I made the decision to handball the job to Katrina. I was nervous about handing over Cadbury's care to others but that was unjust once I realised that Katrina and all her lovely team look after the horses in their care like one of their own. My nervous, shutdown and often reactive horse that had zero buttons under saddle started to transform weekly.
Cadbury is now a confident, calm and happy horse who is a pleasure to ride. I found Katrina's technique kind, correct and sets the horse up to succeed and gain confidence. Katrina has been absolutely fantastic to deal with throughout and gives the support and encouragement to build the perfect relationship between horse and rider. I'm one extremely happy customer and highly recommend Cadence Horse Training to anyone who wants the very best start for their future equine partner." - Serina & Cadbury |
"Katrina, your starting and training our very loved horses is next to none. You taught Rosie so much, she is the most trusting, willing girl I have ever come across, the kind of dream horse everyone wants - don’t ride her for months and just hop on, she never changes. I owe you and your team so much, your patience and understanding with both my Rosie and Bob was quite incredible. As an outside party, I’d be more than happy to tell anyone who wants to know the results you achieved! Forever grateful." - Kylie, Rosie & Bob |
"I want to say a big thank you to Katrina for starting my young Warmblood, River so well!
Yesterday I had my second ride on him and it was so amazing, I never really thought I would get here as in the back of my mind I always thought I was too old and not a good enough rider for a young horse. Many times as he was growing up I considered selling him but I wanted to get him started and see how I felt; well I couldn’t be happier! He is calm, sensible and willing and I think I am going to have a lot of fun with him!" - Jo & River |
“I’ve always struggled with my lower legs and my hands when riding, never happy with where I was at and making little progress. It did not matter who I got lessons off, the same problems were always there for me and my horse. Katrina has been a wonderful teacher who truly understands the biomechanics of the rider and horse, always able to explain things clearly and full of patience, never making you feel bad about where you are at in your journey!! Mine and my horses posture has changed so quickly I’m amazed at the results! My horse is happier, braver and stronger. I’m so excited to reach our goals this year, now that they seem possible under Katrina’s guidance.” - Danielle & Lakota

"I purchased Charlie as a yearling where I started with his routine ground work, handling & exposures, he did very well & was an easy foal. Then he reached 2 years old & had grown big ! He became a pushy, biting horrible horse. Even though I am very experienced & confident I knew I didn’t have what it would take to get through these problems, I was at my wits end. This is when I contacted Katrina, she was so laid back about his issues I was amazed. I dropped Charlie off for 2 weeks of boot camp & he came home a different horse. I no longer wanted to get rid of him but work with him.
He was booked into be started under saddle about a year later but this had to be postponed because I had suffered a serious head injury so he went back for a further 3 weeks of ground work. 6 months later he returned to Katrina to be started under saddle. The whole process was so smooth & Charlie always looked so happy & relaxed within his work. He returned home in excellent condition & had been loved so much. I am loving riding him, he is so forward, sensitive & has many buttons. I could not have asked for a better start for him. I would recommend Katrina & her team to anyone who wants a horse started under saddle properly & without stress. They look after your horse & do what they say they are doing. It takes a bit longer but boy it’s been worth it as I now have a very large 3yr old WB that is actually a very easy young horse. Thank you so much all of you at Cadence! - Abby & Charlie |
"Couldn’t be happier with Katrina and her team. From the 1st clinic we did, watching his sessions, ground work and ridden lessons to the day we took our horse home from his starting stay. It’s so clear from the 1st moment it’s the best space for yours and your horses needs. Can’t recommend more highly. So grateful to have found Cadence." - Jill at Angel Lodge Equine Guardians |
“I can’t thank Katrina and staff enough for their excellent care and training of my young Warmblood!
He arrived at Cadence anxious and a little pushy on the ground; slowly, week by week he gained confidence, balance, patience and respect of personal space - by the end he was relaxed, willing and very safe to ride. He could handle pressure well and with his groundwork I had the tools to get him relaxed in any situation. He could be ridden with contact, and even knew some useful lateral work. He could really use his hind legs and lift his back and just felt so beautiful to ride! Katrina also spent time teaching him to float and even took him on float trips to improve his balance and confidence in the float as he had a float accident before coming to Cadence. He floated like a dream on the way home and I’m so excited to start our journey together. Thanks so much for everything!!" - Julie & Ludo |
"Katrina is very consistent with her training methods and I have learnt a lot by just by watching her work with the horses (including mine) that come to her for training, whether it be from newly starting under saddle to fixing 'problems' Katrina's methods work!
My 4 year old Clydesdale gelding has just completed his training and doing so well! I highly recommend Katrina to anyone, she's excellent at both teaching groundwork and working under saddle - from Clydesdales, Warmbloods, Brumbies, Thoroughbreds, Haflingers, Paints....the list goes on and on and on! Thanks Katrina! I have enjoyed seeing your wonderful work!". - Linda & Ernie |
"I am absolutely over the moon with the work and training that Katrina put into my mare. Summer is so responsive to all aids and great on the ground. Katrina had so much time for Summer and I to give us both the best possible start in our riding career together, I could not recommend Cadence Horse Training enough, whether it's getting your horse started or ironing out a few creases, I have no doubt in Katrina's ability to help you and your horse!".
- Charmaine & Summer |
"I am thrilled with the results of Katrina’s training. My 4yr old Haflinger gelding has flourished in her hands. He now has all his ‘buttons’ in place and is using his body correctly. This strengthening has resulted in a growth in his confidence and he can now walk, trot and canter in a controlled and relaxed frame. Having previously had a bad experience sending a horse away to be started I found it difficult to let my favourite boy go to her, the fact that Katrina is currently training another one of my young geldings is testament to my trust in her kind, intelligent training methods." - Amanda Flood at Mirabelle Farm Haflingers

"Right from first contact, communication was prompt and easy to understand and I was given a clear picture of what to expect. My horse was treated very well and being able to visit was important to me. I really enjoyed the progress reports, the whole experience was straight forward and easy and knowing l can get follow up help if needed means a lot. I rarely recommend businesses these days as good service seems a thing of the past but Cadence really does deliver great customer service. Thank you Katrina, if my horse could talk l am sure he would thank you as well!

I’m so impressed by Katrina's patience and knowledge in handling and training young horses. Our rising 4yr old Warmblood has just returned home and settled in really well, taking everything in his stride. He has developed into a beautifully mannered boy and we are really excited to see what his future holds. Can't thank you enough, thanks for all your help!".
- Pia, Elin & Milo |
"Earlier this year I sent Katrina my boy Bailey, I’m sure Katrina and her staff will agree he was a challenge. He returned from a previous trainer very underweight and terrified of basic handling let alone saddling etc., however I told Katrina we have to give this a go. Throughout his training there were times where we thought this was never going to happen, but Katrina and her staff went right back to the start, continued to persist and WOW, what a transformation! Throughout the whole experience I was regularly updated on his progress and was free to visit as often as I wanted, all the staff were lovely to deal with and all so welcoming, they all genuinely cared for my horse as if he was their own. I cant thank Katrina and her staff enough for the amazing job done and would highly recommend them to anyone, thank you for giving me my beautiful boy back!" - Erin & Bailey

"Belle was a birthday present from my now late husband, Ryan, bought as a 6 month old filly to encourage me to get back into riding and spend some time for myself. I'd followed Katrina for over 3 years, not only researching her training methods and vast experience, but her attitude towards individual horse and rider combinations, as this was an important decision for us.
Any angst I felt at leaving Belle instantly dissolved on arrival, as I found Katrina and staff both warm and welcoming, which continued throughout Belles time at Cadence. Due to her physical and emotional immaturity, I’d decided to wait until she was rising 5, to enable both mental capacity as well as body strength to cope with the amount of information and physical activity that would be expected of her during her training, Belle went from an unsure, unbalanced and dependant youngster to a confident and willing lady, a clear understanding of how to use her big lanky body correctly to enable her to travel softly without resistance. These solid ground foundations transferred beautifully to under saddle and remain with her today. I had full communication with Katrina throughout Belles time with her and was invited to be as involved as I wished in her progress. Her training schedule was clear, concise and thus seamless. At the end of her stay I was invited to partake in training with Belle and Katrina, transferring knowledge both on the ground and under saddle so that I had a thorough understanding of the training foundations and could continue the journey once I took her home. We are now 12 months in, and despite my own inexperience and lack of time, I have myself the most well adjusted, confident, willing, balanced and correct mare, even my dressage coach is smitten and eyeing her off as a top EA prospect consistently praising her starting foundations, reinforcing the best decision I made with sending Belle to Katrina. We have since sent another green broken youngster with yet more of our high expectations met and have a third with her at present, we are so excited and can not wait to see what futures these babies of ours hold largely due to the decision of who we trusted to start them. We cannot thank you Katrina, and your amazing team, enough!." - Lauren & Belle |
"Katrina and her team are talented, professional and wonderful with horses. Katrina brings a deep knowledge to her work as well as a genuine passion for the well-being of all the horses in her care. Brilliant!" - E. Bridger
"Katrina has done a phenomenal job starting Rosie, our Gypsy Cob x mare. Not only is she friendly, professional and extremely knowledgeable but she truly cares for the horse’s physical and mental well being. I couldn’t recommend her highly enough to anyone that needs a competent, thorough and talented trainer to start their horse under saddle.
Thank you so much again for setting up Rosie for a bright future!" Brooke & Rosie |
"I can't thank Katrina and her staff enough for their work with my mare Larni!
Every staff member I met was incredibly welcoming and hospitable, to both me and my horse, from the first week, Katrina kept me posted on all of Larni's progress and proved to be the perfect person to work with her quirks and encourage her development. Katrina has done an amazing job with my mare and I'm so excited to see where our future leads us! I can't recommend Cadence highly enough to anyone in the market for some training." - Maddi & Larni |
"Nothing but brilliance from this Lady trainer, she understood my minis problems, took the time and professionally trained him into a well mannered little man.
I had a mini pony who was a handful and very headshy, I wanted to start showing him so started looking at trainers who would work with him to overcome his headshyness. Katrina was the only trainer I contacted who actually believed that it could be done; she took the time with Bear and now he is winning and looking like a pony that’s been showing in hand for years! Thanks so much Katrina, no-one else could have done such fantastic work with Bear but you.... you really do have a way with horses...oh and miniature ponys!” - Sam & Moorobar Running Bear |
"My experience with Katrina and her staff definitely exceeded all expectations, she was recommended after several bad experiences with other trainers, hence feeling very apprehensive and anxious with a Paint filly I had ready to start - I was definitely very sceptical. I felt so welcomed by the Team at Cadence, they were very patient and nothing I asked was too much trouble. My filly unfortunately injured herself during her stay by scratching her eye, Katrina was very prompt to enlist veterinary assistance, took her in like she was her own, boxing her and attending to her 3-4 times a day - I couldn’t have done a better job myself! My filly went there an anxious baby and has come home a relaxed and mature horse. She is one of those forever horses you don't want to let go of and now her journey can begin with these great foundations in place. I can’t thank Katrina and her staff enough for an amazing, professional experience that I highly recommend"
- Jenny & Cinnamon |
"Katrina brought my Warmblood gelding back into work after a considerable break and did an amazing job. Her expertise improved all his paces as well as his mindset, she is generous and so giving with her time and information to keep you on the right track at home. I am happy to recommend Cadence Horse Training." - Dee & Ferrari |
"My mare's performance under saddle has improved out of sight, all her paces show a huge improvement, the new over-track she has and the three beat canter that has replaced the nervous run she had previously. She is finally learning that a contact can be a safe place to sit and her musculature really shows the difference between how she was working before going to Katrina and after. I can't thank Katrina enough for the improvement in my girl - the best part is that Dolly is now so much happier around humans, on the ground or under saddle. I wholeheartedly recommend Cadence Horse Training." - Jane & Dolly

"So I'm not sure how many people pick up their horse from the trainer on the Monday after 5 weeks under saddle and then ride them at a riding club rally on the Sunday; I feel like it's an uncommon occurrence but that is what I did with my Alice thanks to the solid foundation Katrina built. Her consistent but gentle approach allowed Alice to flourish into the happy and confident young horse she is today, I felt like I was taking a huge gamble by buying an unbroken horse but thanks to you my first youngster experience has been so easy! Thank you!" - Ally & Alice

"Thank you Katrina, for taking such excellent care of Mac during his stay. Wow! - I am just so impressed with his level of care and his newly acquired skills, under saddle and on the ground; sure, I bought a confidence plodder and he was the laid back horse described - but so much of the essentials of daily routine were missing, picking up hooves, unbalanced in canter, not to mention he had zero concept of moving away from pressure whilst riding or when handling. There was quite a long 'wish list' given to you on our arrival, you achieved them all and a few more! Highly recommend to anyone seeking exceptional education for their, quality care and training, with outstanding results! Again huge thanks & appreciation" - Lee & Mac

"I have had Candy back for just over a week and just want to say thank you, Katrina. I'm so happy with how far she has come. I have a horse that has started to accept that this whole riding business isn't that hard, or scary!....and she has been so well looked after!
I have a much more relaxed horse, which has helped me relax, definitely something we both needed. I have been able to use the tools given to continue with my riding. You have helped me get back to basics and just enjoy riding this beautiful animal. I don't think you can ever stop learning, which I am now looking forward to. Anyone looking for a trainer with a calm (but firm) and clearly effective approach to training, I would definitely recommend Katrina." - Erin & Candy |
"Very talented, professional, patient and effective with her work and truly shows she loves the job she does! Just fantastic! She has done an amazing job with my boy and I couldn't thank her enough! It has been the best experience watching her work with my boy, learning new things about him and helping me understand the different aspects of his work, the way he moves and the different parts of his body. Always happy to answer questions and still willing to help now that he's back home, thank you again for the millionth time and look forward to the good times ahead for Rocky and I!"
- Jess & Rocky |
"Thank you Katrina, for your professional approach, patience, and dedication to us and our horses while further educating my 5 year old QH gelding and my mum's 11 year old QH mare. Throughout their time with you, not once did we feel out of the loop, we visited frequently and were always made welcome. I believe the most important thing during lessons and training is being able to communicate with the trainer, as we all know the horses are not the ones with the issues! You have been so accommodating and not once did we feel that we couldn't ask you any question. Thank you Katrina for helping build our relationship with our horses. Our horses thank you!" - Bonnie, Nicky, Sandman & Promise. |
"I can not thank you enough for everything you have done for George; you are an amazing horsewoman and watching you work with him was nothing but amazing. He came to me a scared, nervous, uneducated little man who knew only to shy away from people and brace into pressure. You truly showed him the way. The way you work with horses is just beautiful, George trusted you so much and that's such a credit to you. I have used many trainers and been around horses my whole life, never have I seen such amazing results.
I recommend you highly to anyone wanting a truly beautiful, soft, relaxed, educated horse. Not only does George now know the basics of being a little dressage horse (you found the inner warm blood in him!) but he is so confident in himself. I will be forever grateful for all your help and superb training/re-starting of my boy. He has settled in a dream at home taking everything in his stride. Not only does Katrina have truly outstanding training methods and passion for what she does but her professionalism is second to none, she kept me updated on how my horse was going and went into plenty of detail with such fantastic information. Once again.. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!" - Brooke & George. |
"I'd been out of the saddle for a long time and a previous horse had knocked a lot of confidence out of me. I laughed when I first handed Leon over and said I just wanted her to get bucked off first; of course I was joking, it was just my PFSD [Post Fall Stress Disorder] kicking in! I was absolutely blown away by how amazing he looked under saddle, I always knew he had it in him but to see it realised and for his 'issues' to be ironed out, I almost cried. I took him out into the round yard a day after coming home, he is lovely and soft under saddle and we even had a bit of a canter....whaaaaat?! He was well cared for, looked like he'd been to a health spa and dropped 10 years off him, I was able to drop in any time and the progress reports were just what a worried mum needs. Thanks Katrina, you're not only a lovely lady and great to deal with but you've done such a fabulous job with my boy!"

"It’s been 8 months since King and I started working with Katrina, the results from her teachings have been enjoyable to experience, most rewarding, and such a worthy investment. I am a changed handler and rider, King is a changed horse, largely the result of Katrina’s excellent ability to educate and help us achieve understanding, trust, harmony, and work willingly as a confident team. We have now reached our goal of riding out on the trails again! King is relaxed, responsive and rarely evades, but should a situation arise, Katrina has equipped me with the tools to read and correct him in a timely manner and move on. King is proof that a horse with behavioural problems can willingly change with the right guidance, when the communication between the handler and horse is clear, concise and consistent.
I can park King anywhere, he stands still when I mount and self-loads onto the float. Nowadays, I feel so confident and safe on King that I ride him bareback in a halter around the property. Katrina’s natural ability to understand and communicate with a horse and predict responses is outstanding, I cannot recommend her highly enough and look forward to continuing as we still have plenty of room to learn and grow, we are so fortunate to have found you! PS: King and I are now riding around the property leading his paddock mate, Tonka. Our next goal is for the three of us to ride out on the sunny trails together. Here are a couple of photographs of the two mates – double parked!" - Angelique and King |
"I had a young horse I wouldn't turn my back on who had a great deficiency in knowing how to "be" with humans when I brought him into our modest herd. I fell pregnant that year and a pelvic issue meant I had to stop all work with horses, by the time I realised he needed to be started he was a beautiful and wild thing, rising 4 and not yet fully grown. Each week I noticed him change and become civilised, which really helped sell the training to the payer-of-bills at home! When there is no question of the quality of the work then it's easy to decide who will train your horse.
Buying a 14 month old horse was risky but sending a young horse to be started under saddle should not feel uncertain, within minutes of watching Katrina teach Orion, with immediate effect, a respect for personal boundaries, while respecting him also, I knew she could be trusted for the one job I wasn't willing to take risks with. When my older horse was reunited with Orion, watching them square off was strange - they'd never done that before and it was as if the older one knew the young one had grown up at boarding school - and in those weeks, he really had. Now, for the rest of his life of learning!" - Iznaya & Orion. |
"After hearing about Katrina I started researching, as I was fully aware that the little horse I had purchased would need help in the confidence area; firstly I called other people to find out more, everyone I spoke with said Katrina was vital for your young horse to succeed and those who had dealt with her personally had nothing less than praise and appreciation for her work, they all mentioned her natural ability to teach and guide a horse. My journey started with the first telephone call, I was very nervous because I didn’t want someone ‘breaking my horse’, I wanted someone to teach her to accept, be guided and learn. I grilled Katrina for quite some time about her methods and was so relieved she spoke the same language.
Katrina doesn’t only have a natural ability with horses but also gives the owner regular reports on progress, which I found very beneficial as I am a sometimes nervous rider when it comes to young horses; for me this reporting was like my horse had never left home. Katrina, I want to commend you for being an incredible teacher and I want you to know how impressed I am with your professional manner and the way you conduct yourself. You are a true asset to the equine industry! To find someone who takes pride and goes the extra mile is very rare indeed these days. I am very proud to have met you, to have you teach my horse and myself, it was a great privilege. Many thanks!" - Lynda R Mitchell |
"Soon after purchasing King, a 5yr old, green broke, Quarter Horse, I started to lose my confidence as a rider. King would evade by balking, kicking out and rearing under saddle and on the lead; he was initially diagnosed as having long standing health issues, which we were able to heal over time. However, once cleared by two vets and returning to work, King's evasions continued, were unsafe and both needed professional help.
Thankfully I found Katrina at Cadence Horse training and we haven't looked back since. Katrina has always been friendly, reliable, non-judgemental and a clear communicator. In my opinion she has the knowledge and skills required to be a professional trainer. Time over she has proven to me she has a natural talent combined with the experience needed to read and predict a horse's response in a range of situations. She always implements timely action in a calm and consistent manner to ask King to understand and willingly correct...and then praises. Our training sessions are always tailored to address changing needs and I know I can trust Katrina's judgement about how, when and why we do things. My confidence and skills have greatly increased when both handling and riding King; we now have a consistent, fair and harmonious partnership developing between us and our goal of riding out safely will soon be reached - primarily due to Katrina's excellent horsemanship. Thank you so much, Katrina. King and I are truly fortunate to have found you!" - Angelique & King. |
"I had the pleasure of attending college with Katrina in England many years ago! She always had a ‘way’ with horses; sometimes being a disadvantage as she always ended up riding the ‘difficult’ ones and working ten times harder than everyone else. Her favourite was the horse that no one wanted, he was hard work and set in his ways, but she could work him out and got so much out of him. I recently spent two weeks with Katrina as part of my visit to Australia and witnessed first-hand the amazing effect she has schooling and handling, not just youngsters but horses in general, no matter their age or capabilities.
|
Katrina had just acquired a new youngster to start, her work ethics and practices are fantastic. She is very thorough with her ground work, having specific procedures and processes to gauge how much a horse can handle in its first week. The horses she has recently produced show how much time and effort she puts in; the structures and routines she has actually work and are modified for each individual. As a trainer her skills and attitude are everything needed to produce great results.” – Hayley and Kara.

"I am so impressed with the job Katrina did with my young warmblood filly. She is extremely good with young horses, using methods and techniques that are simple but effective, to ensure the babies understand. Not only did Katrina do a fantastic job with Rose, but corresponded extremely well with me to ensure understanding and consistency once I took Rose on myself. Katrina gave Rose the perfect, solid start to become a competitive dressage horse of the future. With Katrina's professional training Rose is relaxed and responsive, while working in a lovely frame and ready for me to take on. I couldn't recommend Katrina enough!"
- Pippa & Rose. |
"Katrina did a fabulous job with my young horse. Her work with him had solid ground manners established and float loading. He was ready to start riding out at clinics & riding club straight away. Her gentle manner gave him the start he needed to be a lovely, sensible riding horse." - Christie & Duke.

"I am the ecstatic owner of Decibel, a rising 4yr old Warmblood filly. This little mare has had the best possible start to life in the hands of Katrina. Many people have asked me who started/broke her in as she is amazing for such a young horse. Calm in stressful situations, and safe to handle by my daughters( 5&6 ) Katrina's obvious experience and calming nature ensures all horses remain as such. Highly recommended :)" - Joanne & Decibel.
|
I have had 2 horses that have been trained by Katrina. One unbroken 3 year old and one broken 4 year old. Dakota came to me as my first young horse, luckily he had fantastic manners and a great basic understanding of picking up his feet, leading, moving over with pressure and tying up. I found that he responded well to patient and clear explanations and feel that this is because of the time Katrina spends ensuring that they not only understand, but feel safe with what is expected of them . This transferred really well under saddle with a horse that was very easy to train and break in. Ground manners were impeccable which was a very good thing considering future colic surgery and many needles; although he didn’t like it he did understand what was expected of him and took it all in his stride.
|
Davinity came to me already broken. Whilst he is slightly more ‘lively’ than Dakota he also responds very well to reassurance that he is doing the correct thing. On the ground, even when jumpy he never jumps into your space; picking up feet, leading and tying up are all a breeze. It was very clear from the first time I rode Davinity that Katrina had taken the time to ensure that he felt safe with a human on his back. He tries his hardest to understand and do what is asked of him and wants to work for you. This and his manners under-saddle and on the ground are all a testament to Katrina understanding that each horse is different, but they all get there in their own time."
